Need confidence to take action?
Surprisingly, taking action actually leads to confidence so instead of waiting to get the guts to go after that opportunity, you’ll get further if you jump in and… go for it. Think of it as one of the few times when leap before you look is the right course of action.
Over 15 years ago, when I was exploring my career options — should I become a career coach, open a bakery, etc. — I didn’t have it all figured out. Far from it, actually.
But, when I heard that the Food Network was casting for their television show, “Food Network Star,” I jumped at the opportunity to audition. It was a step that was in alignment with my overall values. I was passionate about food, cooking, and loved sharing ideas. Food was also a way to connect with others. So, I went for it.
I didn’t know where it would lead but it felt fun and inspiring. And, it was!
While ultimately my journey wasn’t destined to end up on the show, auditioning was exciting and I was bolstered by the fact that I had the confidence to go after an opportunity that seemed far-reaching. Taking that action made me feel like I could do anything. In fact, it ultimately gave me the confidence to start my own business, InnerBrilliance.
By the way, Guy Fieri won the year I would have participated. And, I found my own version of Flavortown.
