It takes time to make a career transition – esp if you want to move into an entirely different career. There are some programs out there that say it can be done quickly. But, if you’re looking for your dream job, it might take more than a few months to make it happen. You may uncover what your passion is and a job that you love quickly, but it can take more time to become a reality.
How you can make it happen.
Sometimes you need to keep working at your day job to make money or feel confident while you’re searching for your next job or making a career transition to your ideal job.
During your exploration phase, you can take time to get to know the industry you’re interested in entering by meeting people in that industry or you could work in it to gain experience. You can also make authentic connections with people.
It took me a couple of years to decide what my ultimate career would be (i.e., coaching) and then 6 years to transition. I worked in my advertising job that whole time while I built my coaching business on the side.
The benefits of taking the time to do it right.
While I remained in advertising, I learned so much about digital marketing AND I took time to hone my coaching skills by receiving additional certifications. Learning about marketing and getting these certifications were not requirements for moving forward with making my transition. But, I felt more confident with those experiences supporting me. And, I created a business I’m passionate about doing what I love at a pace that felt right for me.
