Choices
When I was a kid wearing my hair in braids looped on each side of my head like a nice little Italian girl (read: no one in America wore their hair this way), I had a choice to notice how I didn’t belong at school. Or, I could take my Italian identity and be proud of it. (Didn’t always work, but I did my best.)
Perspective
In my coaching courses, we learned about how different perspectives could be more empowering. Ironically, one evening I was planning a dinner for my new coaching friends and stressing about logistics. My coaching colleague suggested I think about how to make it easy.
And, voila! I came up with a “perfect” plan one where I put the plan out there and trusted it would all work out for everyone. As a reminder to use this perspective of “how can I make it easy,” that colleague gave our whole class the “Easy Button.” Thank you, Kim!
Examples
Since then, I often practice perspective changes. I choose to focus on my values versus what feels frustrating. Here are some examples of how I shifted my perspective:
Background: When I was working in advertising and coaching on the side, trying to build my business.
Perspective Change: I’m so busy –> I get to learn about marketing AND build my coaching business on the side.
Background: When I’m excited to connect with clients and coach, but I need to market my business, too.
Perspective Change: I have to send my e-newsletter –> I get to share nuggets of information that can help people improve their lives.
Background: When I have everyday errands and chores like laundry or grocery shopping.
Perspective Change: I have to do laundry–> I get to take care of myself and feel good with clean clothes.
What is an area of your life where you feel frustrated or drained? And, how can you change your perspective to feel more empowered? #innerbrilliancecoaching
